Reader Plus 4.2.0 release (Build includes new features and bug fixes.

Software Requirements

The following software is required to use Reader Plus.

Servers Supported

  • Windows Server® 2008 R2, 2012 R2, or 2016

  • Microsoft® .NET Framework 4.6.2 (If not detected, an install option is offered)

  • Supported browsers: Chrome, Firefox, and Internet Explorer 11

Note: If installing an ActivePDF product on a Windows 2012 R2 server for the first time, you must download and install two Microsoft updates for Windows 2012 R2 servers. The updates resolve issues with Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Runtime Components. For links and step-by-step instructions, see the ActivePDF Knowledge Base article Installing Products on Windows 2012 R2 Servers.

Database Requirements

  • Gibraltar® VistaDB

  • Microsoft® SQL Server 2012 R2 or later

    • SQL Server Enterprise is recommended for high-production usage.

Note: SQL Server does not need a local installation; for deployments with multiple servers using ActivePDF Reader Plus for the same web application, a local installation is not recommended. The SQL Server instance must be accessible via a standard SQL connection string from the application server where ActivePDF Reader Plus is installed.

Hardware Requirements

  • 350 MB of RAM

  • 175 MB of hard disk space (for application)

New Features and Enhancements

Reader Plus 4.2.0 supports the following new features and enhancements:

  • Navigate to a specific page and field in a PDF document. Developers can configure an element, such as a button, link, or image, that end users trigger to take them to a field on a page. For example, if the end user clicks a button, the document automatically moves to the name field on page 4.

  • Additional styles are available for fields. Developers can customize the user interface, configuring field properties, such as the background color.

  • Scroll to a field at the bottom of a last page in the PDF document.

  • When adding annotations, the comments pop-up box is now organized in an easy-to-view right-hand navigation pane.

  • Enhancements to the electronic Signature in the Tools menu.

    • Hide Signature tabs. Developers can customize the Signature dialog box to hide the Type, Draw, or Image tabs, to define which signatures types Reader Plus handles.

    • Show the Signature pad after the Signature field is clicked. Developers can create a bounding box around a signature, which sets the width and height coordinates for the signature field. For example, developers can create an event, so that when end users open a PDF document, the Signature field is highlighted.

    • Display a digital signature on a PDF document. If a PDF document is already signed, the signature displays as an image.

  • Developers can configure settings so that end users can edit, and then submit, a PDF file directly to server without passing the file.

  • Developers can disable the confirmation pop-up message that displays when end users submit or download a document or submit a document.

  • While in a PDF document, use the keyboard End button to navigate to the end of a PDF, or use the Home button to return to the beginning of the document.

  • Text field special formatting for ZIP codes, telephone numbers, and Social Security Numbers. When you add a long string of numbers to a telephone or Social Security number field, Reader Plus changes them to the correct phone or Social Security Numbers format. For example, if you entered 5552301555 into a phone field, Reader Plus changes that number to the phone format of (555) 230-1555.
Reader Plus also formats a long string of numbers in a Social Security field from XXXXXXXXX to XXX-XX-XXXX, and formats either five-digit or five digit + four digit ZIP codes.
